The Program

Strength, softness and storytelling

Contemporary at Lumenstep blends ballet basics with release technique, floorwork and improvisation. Classes open with conditioning and stretch, move into across-the-floor phrases, and close with choreography that asks you to feel as much as execute.

It is our most transformative program for posture, flexibility and emotional range — loved by beginners seeking grace and by trained dancers refining artistry for stage and camera.

  • Age 10+, separate teen & adult batches
  • Ballet-base conditioning in every class
  • Improvisation and composition labs
  • Concept pieces at both showcases

Contemporary FAQs

Questions dancers ask us

Do I need ballet experience?+

No. Foundation batches teach turnout, port de bras and alignment from scratch, and progress at a pace stiff beginners can follow.

I'm not flexible. Is this for me?+

Especially for you. Every class includes guided stretching, and most students touch their toes within 8–12 weeks of consistent practice.

What do I wear?+

Fitted stretchable clothes and bare feet or foot thongs. Long hair tied back — floorwork and turns demand it.

Are there performances?+

Two showcases a year plus repertory productions. Foundation students perform lyrical group pieces; advanced dancers get solos and duets.
